Do you ever have one of “those” days? The ones where the kids are extra fussy, the dog manages to bark during every Zoom meeting, and the house just feels a little more hectic and chaotic than usual? Today was one of those days for me. After what feels like 500 months of sheltering in place and trying to balance working, learning, and playing at home, it can be hard to find the good during these extra tough days. But then… I heard this song.

Battles may rage, but we will not fear.
‘Cause we know our victory is standing right here.
Heaven’s all around.
Heaven’s all around.
Jesus is near.

These lyrics speak to my worried, anxious, and tired momma-heart. In the midst of the chaos, Jesus is here. Good days and tough days, He is here. When COVID-19 first hit, it felt like the end. Suddenly, everyone was working from home. Schools were closed. The Internet was slow, the toilet paper was hard to find, and no one knew what to expect. Fast forward to several months later, and we may have the toilet paper thing a little more under control, but most people are still home and there is just as much – if not more – unknown swirling around.
It’s a mystery to us, but this time in our lives does not come as a surprise to God. Nothing surprises Him. He hasn’t gone anywhere. And I’m reminded of this each time I hear this song.

Come and move how You want to.
Do what only You can do.

If you are having one of “those” days, I would like to encourage you to take a deep breath and let these lyrics wash over you. Be encouraged that Jesus is near. And know that He isn’t going anywhere.
